Roof Installation
Putting a new roof on your home can seem like a daunting task. At Lifetime Roofing, our goal is to make the process as easy as possible for you. Once you’ve accepted our estimate and scheduled your installation with your service manager, here’s what will happen next.

1. Delivery
Either the day of or the day before, we will deliver a dumpster, as well as your selected roofing materials to your property. Your service manager will contact you in advance to let you know when these will be delivered, and determine the best place to leave them for the duration of the job.

2. Removal
The first step to installing your new roof is removing the old one. The first thing our crew will do is remove your old roofing materials all the way down to the plywood sheathing or “deck”. We will then inspect the plywood, and replace any damaged sections to ensure that your new roof has a solid foundation that will last for many years to come.

3. Installation - The Underlayment
Once your roof has been “stripped” and sheathing has been replaced as needed, we will install the underlayment. Underlayment adds an extra layer of protection from windblown rain or snow and ice from ice dams, which can force water to seep up under even properly installed shingles. Underlayment consists of a synthetic roofing “felt” (a modern replacement for roofing paper, or tar paper) which is installed all over the roof, as well as specialized products such as ice and water shield in areas that are particularly susceptible to water infiltration, like eaves, hips, and rakes.

4. Installation - The Shingles
After the underlayment is installed, we move on to installing the shingles. Shingles are typically installed starting at the eaves (the bottom edges) of the roof and working up to the peak in overlapping layers. At the peak of the roof a ridge vent will be installed and overlaid with shingles. This is a continuous strip of material installed along the roof peak which allows attic ventilation. This ventilation releases warm, damp air keeping your attic cool year round. The ridge vent can improve your cooling bills in the summer, but more importantly help prevent ice dams in the winter, by keeping your attic cool and preventing the insidious melt-freeze-melt cycle that pushes ice and water under your eaves causing dams, leaks, and damage to your home.

5. Finishing Touches
Once your shingles are installed, we’ll finish up any gutter or downspout replacements, paint touch ups, or other items. Then, we’ll do a final clean-up of your property, including running a magnetic sweeper throughout, in order to pick up any stray nails. We’ll then do a final walkthrough with you, to ensure everything meets your expectations.
